Here's a few pictures of new construction here at the zoo.

|
|

|
|
We just
ordered a brand new sign for the zoo and here are a few pictures of the
frame that will support it. The sign frame was made from old square
guard rails. They are galvanized so the frame will last a long time but
it took a very good welder to secure the pieces together and a special
paint that would adhere to it. Because of our long winters, I picked a
bright green paint to make it always seem sunny. The last picture is the
new sign just installed to help visitors find there way to our zoo. |

This is our new bridge being built.
The bridge is being built where the mountain slopes toward my barn which
every spring would flood with the run off from melted snow off the mountain.
I dug a two foot deep ditch, laid telephone poles that were at least twenty
inches thick down. The poles were donated. The bridge is 36' wide and 10'
across. My son Bob and I finished it 5-14-08 and put shale up to it
because the ground here has allot of clay which gets real messy after a
rain. |

This is the start of the first section of our
new pavilion. This will house the restrooms for our visitors at the Zoo.
Summer is here at the Zoo but here in Unadilla, NY, summer is short
and there's a lot of work to be done before winter once again covers the Zoo
in snow and ice.. |
|
 |
Here we are getting ready
to pour the foundation that will house our exotics and in the back is
the new fence around the new alligator enclosure. Winter here at
Unadilla with all the ice and snow has really slowed down our work but
with warmer weather now and the help of our volunteers
things are really coming together.. |
|

|
This is the start of our new reptile house that will be the home of many
reptiles that we have now plus more will be added along. Here is a
list of a few that will call the new reptile house their home, .Burmese
python, red tail boa, king snake, carpet python, gopher snake, ball
python, yellow anaconda, and Nile monitor. |

|
Here's a picture of our Fox and Wallaby pens.. We've just added a
new top to each pen to keep them drier and to shade them a little from
the hot sunshine in the summer. Around the zoo, we are always in need of
volunteers to help us help our animals have a happy and safe home.. |
|

|
John Williams is a student at Unatego High School. His teacher is giving
the students extra credits for volunteering to help work at the zoo.
Here John is helping to build the safety fence to keep our visitors safe
while viewing our Bobcats. He is one of our many volunteers around the zoo.
We are always in need of volunteers to help us help
our animals have a happy and safe home.. |
|

|
Brian Leizear has one day volunteering at the zoo so far for school community
service credit. He will be back Saturday. He has helped by raking out piles
of dirt to fill in where the ground washed out during the winter at the
fallow deer pen. Then he helped me with fence posts and cleaning the picnic
area. We are always in need of volunteers to help us help our animals
have a happy and safe home.. |
|

|
|
The first picture is the frozen pond which will be the new home for our
capybaras. With the beginning of spring here at the zoo and the help
of some volunteers, the new home for our capybaras is starting to take
shape.. The ground here is very hard and the holes for the fence post had to
be drilled. Now the fence is being put up and is almost ready. As you
can see here at the zoo, we are always in need of volunteers all the time. |

Our new Bob Cats
are here!! We just got the cage ready in time but we still have more
work before it's completed. We still need to add a safety fence around
their cages to keep our visitors a safe distance from their enclosure. We
are also going to add a roof to their cage to give them some shelter from
the summer sun. They are beautiful animals and will make a great addition to
our Zoo. I'm sure they will be a hit with all the visitors. |
|

|
|
Our new pens for
our Coatimundi's are almost complete. Their new enclosure will give them
more room to run and climb like Coati's like to do. The weather here
at the zoo is warming up and it's almost time for our opening. I'm sure our
visitors will enjoy watching them in their new home. Bring all the
kids and enjoy the zoo. |

These are a few
PIC's of our new fox enclosures. The first PIC is a front view and the
second PIC is the back view. This new enclosure will house 11 fox with
an area for kits. Take a look at the third PIC, that all our fox in
their old enclosure that just can't wait to get in the new enclosure with
plenty of room to run a play. |
|

|
This was the cavies pen but now will be two
pheasant pens. The old fox pen will be made in to two other pens, one for
pheasants and one for guinea hens. |
|

|
This is our new
entrance booth and with our new parking lot it's big enough for all our
visitors to use without parking along the highway. |
|

|
|
The old cavy pen is now a guinea and silver
pheasant pens. The old fox pen is being made into pens for yellow and
red golden pheasants. |
|
   |
|
The first picture is the start of the cavy
pen. The second picture is the cavy pen before the side wire were added.
Chain link is covered with sod and also cemented on all edges to keep
them from tunneling out. The last picture is the new Patagonian cavy pen
complete, three times as big as the old one. At the far end is the start
of the shelter which will also begin the start of the muntjac pen.
